Mali Accuses Algeria of Drone Downing, Withdraws Envoys with Niger and Burkina Faso

The interim government of Mali has officially charged the Algerian armed forces with bringing down a Malian surveillance drone close to their mutual frontier. This event took place in the vicinity of Tinzouatine along the borderline, within Algeria’s sixth military district.

On Sunday night, the Malian government released an official announcement stating that the drone was conducting a surveillance operation when it was apprehended and shot down by Algeria’s military forces. The declaration condemned this act as a violation of their country’s sovereignty.

The Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a distinct announcement that authorities have determined with "complete assurance" that the drone was brought down as a result of "a hostile and premeditated act initiated by the Algerian government."

Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso announced in a collective statement that they have recalled their ambassadors from Algiers.

The three nations strongly condemned the operation, describing it as a "breach of sovereignty" and a intensification of Algeria’s continuing disagreement with Mali’s military actions against armed factions in the area.

The combined declaration stressed that Mali considered the assault to be a "calculated and hostile action," additionally charging Algeria with aiding international terrorism through its obstruction of Mali’s anti-terrorism efforts.

Aside from withdrawing their ambassador, Mali disclosed intentions to pull out from the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CEMOC), which includes Algeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger as members. Additionally, Mali is contemplating pursuing legal measures against Algeria at various international forums due to the aggressive acts committed against its troops.

Previously, the Algerian Ministry of Defense verified the occurrence, mentioning that the drone had breached Algerian airspace and was neutralized through surveillance systems. The ministry characterized this action as "swift and precise."

Nevertheless, Algeria refrained from disclosing the source of the drone, noting that it was shot down prior to accomplishing its objective.

Algeria refrained from making an immediate statement regarding the alleged recall of its diplomats.
