
Colombo [Sri Lanka], April 6 (ANI): M Senthil Thondaman, president of Sri Lanka’s political party, the Ceylon Workers' Congress, conveyed his contentment regarding Prime Minister Modi's fourth trip to Sri Lanka. He highlighted that Prime Minister Modi has consistently served as an “inspirational figure” for everyone, particularly politicians.
In his conversation with ANI, he commended Prime Minister Modi and stated, "Prime Minister Modi has kept all the promises he made to Sri Lanka in the past."
"We were delighted to encounter Prime Minister Narendra Modi. To everyone, particularly those in politics, he has consistently served as an inspirational role model. This marks his fourth trip to Sri Lanka. Throughout each of his visits, he has significantly strengthened the ties between India and Sri Lanka compared to before," he stated.
"Today’s visit was equally robust as the last one. Throughout this trip, he reaffirmed that both the Indian government and its citizens have consistently backed Sri Lanka—not just during crises but also throughout developmental phases, with particular emphasis on the support for the Indian-origin Tamil community in Sri Lanka. As promised earlier, Prime Minister Modi has kept up his commitments to Sri Lanka,” he further stated.
Senthil Thondaman, who currently leads the Ceylon Workers' Congress (CWC) as its president, has made significant contributions to Sri Lankan politics. Holding office from May 2023 until September 2024, he was appointed as the Governor of the Eastern Province. His leadership at the helm of the CWC began in March 2022.
The Ceylon Workers' Congress is a political party in Sri Lanka that has historically represented the Sri Lankan Tamils of Indian descent.
Previously, Prime Minister Modi met with members of the Indian Origin Tamil (IOT) community in Colombo, Sri Lanka, emphasizing that this group has served as a "living bridge" connecting the two countries for over 200 years.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s “firm dedication” to advancing the well-being and prosperity of the Indian-descended Tamil population. He mentioned that India would assist in building 10,000 homes, establishing healthcare centers, constructing the holy site known as Seetha Eliya Temple, and undertaking various other initiatives aimed at developing this community within Sri Lanka alongside the local government.
The discussion with the leaders of Indian Origin Tamils (IOT) proved productive. This group has served as a vital link between both nations for more than two centuries. In collaboration with the Sri Lankan government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India will assist in building 10,000 homes, improving health services, developing the holy site known as Seetha Eliya Temple, and undertaking various other initiatives aimed at uplifting the IOT community. He shared this information via an X post.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, posted on X about Prime Minister Modi's engagement with the Indian-origin Tamil community.
